Once you’ve installed Azureus:

Go in Tools menu and choose Options

In the left column click on the various categories and modify their options as follows.

MODE

choose intermediate

CONNECTION

in Incoming TCP/UDP port listen, chose the desired port.
Attention:
as in most P2P software, the TCP/UDP port requires to be portforwarded (in case of Router, see NAT and Virtual Server settings).
Then be sure of the network card TCP/IP settings.

CONNECTION – Transport encription

ensure that the encryption protocol is enabled and allow the connection to non-encrypted peers.

TRANSFER

In upload you have to set, the Upload max value – 5÷10KB.
This is to reserve some of upload for navigating while azureus works.
i.e. for a 256Kb upload max value, you have to set an upload value of 25KB (256Kb/8 – 7KB).
i.e. for a 384Kb upload max value, you have to set an upload value of 40KB (384Kb/8 – 8KB).

If you want upload be all reserved for Azureus, leaves as the value 0KB (unlimited).

In Download, leaves the value to 0 (unlimited).

Max Connections per torrent, set the value to max downstream value / 50
i.e. for 4Mb, set the value to 80 (4000Kb/50).
Max Connections globally, multiply the max number of connection per peer, for 3
(80×3=240).

Set active, Use Lazy Bitfield, too.

In the rest of categories and options, leave the default value.

IP FILTERING.

Now we have to add a very important PLUGIN to make AZUREUS more secure.

Choose the PLUGINS menu and click on Istallation WIzard…
and choose by list of SOURCEFORGE.net.

click on “SAFEPEER” and click on NEXT, and again on Finish button.

Click on Install and when installation is finished, click on Close.
Now in PLUGIN menu, it will appear SAFEPEER.

On both pages that SAFEPEER will open, click on SAVE.
Restart AZUREUS from FILE menu.

Now, download your preferred torrent, open it in AZUREUS and be sure that the NAT signal, becomes GREEN.
If after some minutes, the NAT signal is still YELLOW or RED, check the portforwarding and network card settings.
